Recruitment and Admissions Policy
Read the latest version of the recruitment and admissions policy adopted by the London Institute of Business and Technology.
1. Purpose and scope
This policy sets out how LIBT assesses applications for its Academic programmes (see the Glossary, LIBT Quality Glossary, for this and LIBT's other two programme categories). It applies to every applicant, whether applying directly or through an agent.
Detailed entry criteria are set out in the Academic Regulations and are not repeated here. These include English language requirements, Recognition of Prior Learning and advanced standing, associate student status, and concurrent enrolment.
2. Principles
Admission decisions are evidence-based and made without discrimination on the basis of any protected characteristic under UK law. Selection is based solely on an applicant's ability to benefit from and succeed on the programme applied for. Each programme's specific entry requirements are published on the LIBT website and in the relevant programme specification.
An applicant may be considered for admission even where they do not meet the published entry criteria, if they can demonstrate through other evidence or experience the potential to succeed. See the Recognition of Prior Learning Policy for how prior learning and experience is assessed.
3. Application process
- The applicant completes the online application, providing accurate personal, educational, and contact information.
- The applicant submits supporting documents (for example academic transcripts, identification, and English language evidence) and pays any published application fee.
- The Admissions Team reviews the completed application and keeps the applicant informed of its progress and of any further information needed.
- The Admissions Team decides the outcome, with oversight from the Academic Board, and issues an offer or a decision not to offer a place, with reasons.
LIBT may refuse admission, or withdraw an offer already made, where an applicant does not meet the minimum entry criteria, provides fraudulent documentation, or has a record of conduct incompatible with LIBT's policies. See the Academic Regulations for the full rule.
4. Offer and acceptance
An applicant who receives an offer confirms their acceptance by the deadline stated in the offer letter. Once accepted, the applicant moves to induction and registration under the Induction Procedure, which explains what happens next. This policy does not repeat those steps.
5. International applicants
An applicant who requires a student visa is responsible for obtaining and maintaining the correct visa for their country of residence and study. They are also responsible for meeting the immigration authority's own requirements. LIBT will provide the documentation an applicant reasonably needs to support a visa application. However, the decision to grant a visa rests with the relevant immigration authority, not LIBT.
6. Data protection
Personal data provided during the admissions process is held and processed in line with LIBT's Data Protection Policy. An applicant may exercise any of the data subject rights set out in that policy by writing to the Academic Registry.
7. Appeal or complaint
An applicant who is dissatisfied with an admissions decision, or with how their application was handled, may raise this under the Academic Appeals and Complaints Policy.
8. Review
This policy is reviewed annually by the Academic Board. Any change must be checked against the Cross-Reference Map, in particular against the Academic Regulations, the Induction Procedure, the Recognition of Prior Learning Policy, and the Student Contract and Terms and Conditions.
