Induction Procedure

Read the latest version of the induction procedure adopted by the London Institute of Business and Technology.

Version 2.0Effective 1 August 2026Updated 17 July 2026

1. Purpose

This is a procedure, not a policy. It describes what happens between a student accepting their offer (see the Recruitment and Admissions Policy) and starting their programme. LIBT expects to adapt it between intakes as it improves the process. It does not repeat the application, offer, or acceptance steps already covered in the Recruitment and Admissions Policy.

Because every LIBT Academic programme is delivered online (see the Glossary), this procedure is written for online delivery throughout. There is no separate version for a different mode.

2. Typical induction schedule

Session Covers
Welcome and orientation Introduction to LIBT, the programme team, and fellow students
LMS walkthrough Setting up and navigating Canvas, LIBT's current Learning Management System, submitting work, accessing resources
Academic skills Study skills, referencing, and academic integrity expectations
Policies overview Assessment, appeals and complaints, reasonable adjustments and special consideration, and where to find every policy
Meet your tutors Introduction to module tutors and the Student Counsellor
Q&A / drop-in Open session for questions before the programme starts

The exact schedule, dates, and times are published to each intake before induction begins.

3. Timing and missed sessions

Induction takes place in the two weeks before the programme start date. Every live session is recorded. The recording is made available on the LMS within 1 working day for any student who could not attend live. A student who misses a session should still complete it (live or recorded) before the programme start date. A student who cannot do so should contact the Student Counsellor. The Student Counsellor will arrange an alternative before the first assessment deadline falls due.

4. Completion

Completion of induction, whether attended live or via recording, is recorded on the student's record. LMS access for programme content (as opposed to induction content) is granted once a student has completed induction and their registration is confirmed.

5. Review

This procedure is reviewed after each intake based on student and staff feedback, and at least once a year by the Academic Registry. Because it is a procedure rather than a regulation, changes do not require the same portfolio-wide review as a policy change. However, any change that affects a cross-referenced policy (for example, the Recruitment and Admissions Policy) should still be checked against the Cross-Reference Map.
