Master of Business Administration top-up course at UCM offers the MBA (WBIS), a professional work-based degree award by University of Chester.
Negotiated, work-based learning means that you tailor the learning on the course to meet your own professional interests and aspirations, and it is - which means that you will learn through real workplace activity and projects rather than by sitting in a classroom. But you also work with highly experienced academic specialists who guide and support you through your journey with us. Together, this is a powerful recipe for highly relevant, individualised and challenging professional development, which leads to a prestigious Masters level qualification.
WBIS is ideal for those who recognise the potential of learning through work and who are prepared to assume a high level of responsibility for their own learning.

Designing Practitioner Research (20 credits)
This module is about designing proposals for research in the workplace that will make a difference – sometimes called practitioner research. This type of research is undertaken by and/or for practitioners, for practical outcomes. It is different to academic or scientific research in that it primarily aims to enhance, change and develop practice or the practice setting, in a systematic and rigorous way. The outcome is something which will be useful to you, your organisation, or a wider community. It is systematic and rigorous because it follows a (research) process which is thorough, detailed and consistently critical – each step is justified so anyone scrutinising can follow (or audit) your logic and flow of thinking.
Work based thesis (60 credits)
Your work based thesis will be a 60 credit Negotiated Experiential Learning Module (NELM). The title and focus of the learning must be negotiated with your tutor (and employer where appropriate). Typically it will be the implementation of the research project that you have designed in DPR. NELM’s allow you to devise, implement, and reflect on experiential learning and projects that are relevant to you and/or your organisation and which can be completed within your place of work. It is intended that they will allow you, if possible, to contribute to a strategic development within your organisation and thus enhance the working practices of your department or section. The modules will, therefore, provide you with an opportunity to integrate practice with theory and also to develop your skills as a reflective practitioner.
International students will require a study visa that entitles you to study and undertake up to 20 hours work per week. You will require a work placement to provide evidence for your NELM.
