Programme Overview

You’ll focus on integrating human resource management from strategy to application – which you’ll explore through a Dissertation and Supporting Research Methods workshops.

This Master's Stage Award is ideal if you already have a Graduate Membership (Postgraduate Diploma equivalent) from the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) – or you’ve demonstrated the knowledge requirements to gain direct entry to the Master’s stage.

Whether you’ve worked in HRM/HRD for a number of years or you’ve recently moved into HRM/HRD – and you’d like to progress into more senior management positions – this award provides techniques and academic theory to underpin your work.

Study style
You’ll benefit from expert, supportive staff and small-group learning. You’ll be assessed 100% by coursework.

Based in the new, purpose-built Business School at the Oxstalls Campus, Gloucester, you’ll develop professionally and gain knowledge and skills from lecturers who are current and active business professionals – experts and researchers who apply real-world industry experience to their teaching.

Course Content
There is only one module for this programme:
Key elements of professional competence are strategic awareness, a business orientation and a concern with adding value through human resource (HR) practice. Qualified professionals should be able to research relevant topics and write reports that can persuade key stakeholders in the organisation to change or adopt a particular policy and practice. The purpose of the dissertation is to allow the student to carry out a self-managed piece of work that provides an in-depth investigation of an issue relevant to the field of management and business. The dissertation allows the student to critically evaluate and synthesise relevant business related philosophies, theories and models, undertake a process of enquiry using primary and/or secondary data sources and critically relate these academic concepts to a relevant area of business management activity. The dissertation allows for an analytical study of academic topics within the context of practical business decision making and can thereby contribute to the body of knowledge in the domain of management and business. The reflective element of the dissertation will give the student an opportunity to critically analyse and evaluate their experience of the learning process.
