Overview

Salary: £24,193 raising to £25,404 upon completion of probationary period and mandatory training Working Hours: 40 hours per week. Evening and weekends may be needed occasionally but these are part of the working week. Location: Douglas. Fantastic opportunity to join St Christopher's SYS (See Yourself Succeed). About the Role: Mainstream school life is often a challenge for young people in the care system, our job is to enable them to pursue their ambitions in education, work and leisure. We aim to help young people develop core skills – both practical and academic, deepen their interests and explore new ideas. You will be involved in delivering one-to-one and small group sessions, tailored to individual needs, working with the rest of the team to ensure our young people are provided with appropriate educational opportunities. We believe everyone has a right to learn in the way that suits them best.

There is no such thing as a typical anything about this job. Sessions take place anywhere from the beach to the kitchen via the garden, the workshop and the gym. The unexpected is everyday in this job. We are particularly interested in hearing from people with practical skills in a workshop setting. The successful candidate will have: A desire to work with young people to support the achievement of their learning outcomes, particularly those who are underachieving, disaffected or have social/emotional barriers to their learning. A good range of secondary school level qualifications - GCSE, BTEC, A level or equivalents vocational qualifications. The ability to work effectively with and gain the confidence of young people and those that work with them and to involve them in the development of programmes which meet their needs. To work within clear and appropriate boundaries. The ability to liaise and negotiate with schools and other agencies to develop support and provision for young people. The ability to plan, record and report educational programmes, progress and outcomes. Current and valid driving licence.
