Build a confident, practical understanding of intellectual property law and its application in commercial, creative and technology-driven environments. This course equips business professionals, innovators and creative industry practitioners with the legal knowledge to protect, enforce and manage IP rights effectively in an increasingly digital and AI-driven world.
Intellectual property is one of the most valuable and most misunderstood assets in modern business. Many professionals who create, commission or commercialise IP do so without a clear understanding of what they own, what protection exists or what happens when those rights are infringed. In a digital environment where content is copied instantly, innovations are reverse-engineered rapidly and AI systems generate creative works autonomously, that knowledge gap carries significant commercial and legal risk.
Participants will develop a working command of the four main categories of IP, examine how contracts govern IP transactions and licensing arrangements, and build practical skills in advising on IP disputes and enforcement strategies. The course places particular emphasis on the digital and AI dimensions of IP law, including the challenges posed by AI-generated content, deep fakes, algorithmic invention and the tension between IP protection and the open internet.
This course is derived from LIBT's Extended Diploma in Law. Participants who complete this certificate and wish to gain academic credit may submit the module assignment through LIBT's academic pathway. Completing the full diploma provides direct entry into the final year of an undergraduate law degree at one of LIBT's university partners.
