Monarchy and Democracy: A History of Leadership Book

The London Institute of Business and Technology (LIBT) features in Monarchy and Democracy: A History of Leadership, a new commemorative publication produced by the History of Parliament and St James's House.

The book launched on Tuesday 9 June 2026 at College Garden, Westminster Abbey, in front of more than 500 guests from parliament, industry and the media. Written by a team of academics and bestselling authors, including royal experts Robert Jobson, Russell Myers and Katie Nicholl, it explores the changing roles of Crown and Parliament across the UK and the Commonwealth.

The fully illustrated, 750-page work spans the centuries, from the medieval roots of parliamentary power to today's constitutional monarchy. It profiles a select group of organisations chosen for their relevance to the themes of leadership, governance and sustainability, with LIBT among them.

Sesiri Pathirane, CEO at LIBT said: "To appear in a book about the evolution of British democracy, alongside organisations chosen for their relevance to leadership and governance, is a real honour for everyone at LIBT. Developing capable, principled leaders sits at the heart of what we do, so the recognition means a great deal."

Dr Jennifer Davey, Director at the History of Parliament Trust, said: "The book not only explores the history and evolution of UK and Commonwealth governance and the shift to a constitutional monarchy, but also profiles a selection of organisations invited to join the project based on their relevance to the themes of leadership, innovation, sustainability and governance."

The launch featured a panel conversation between Jobson, Myers and Nicholl, alongside speeches and the official presentation of the book. It was followed by the London Press Club Summer Garden Party, which included a tribute to Her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

Published in print and as an e-book, Monarchy and Democracy is reaching political, institutional and educational audiences across the UK, Europe and the Commonwealth. You can read more about the project at www.hoptmedia.com.
