The ATHE Level 7 Extended Diploma in Computing Technologies is a 120-credit Ofqual regulated qualification. It provides the core knowledge, understanding and skills to support learners planning to further their studies and careers in the field of computing technologies.

The qualification has been developed in collaboration with subject experts, colleges, higher education institutions and businesses to ensure the qualification meets their needs.

The different pathways allow learners to study a more general (non-specified) programme or specialise in particular fields of study as listed below. All pathways have the same credit value.

Accredited by Chartered Management Institute (CMI)

LIBT Level 7 Diploma in Strategic Leadership and Management is accredited by the Chartered Management Institute (CMI), which means you can apply for Chartered Manager through Fast-track status on completion of your studies. The students will also receive a CMI Level 7 Certificate in Strategic Management and Leadership Practise.

Mandatory Modules

IT701 - Managing Innovation and Change in Computing (20 credits)

This unit aims to provide learners with the necessary knowledge and understanding in order to manage innovation and change in computing environments. Learners will explore that change is constant and the importance of understanding and applying a process for managing change within an organisation. There will be a focus on innovation and changes that are common across the computing industry.

IT702 - Systems Development and User Experience (UX) (20 credits)

This unit aims to provide learners with knowledge and understanding of the development of systems and how this is achieved using a range of systems development life cycle models (SDLC).

IT703 - Implementing and Managing Cyber Security (20 credits)

This unit aims to provide learners with the necessary knowledge and understanding of securing computing systems and how to implement and manage cyber security in an enterprise environment. The unit will focus on the core principles to consider in order to secure systems appropriately.

IT704 - Business Intelligence Systems (20 credits)

This unit aims to help learners develop an understanding of business intelligence systems and the benefits of using such systems from an organisational point of view.

IT705 - Independent Project (20 credits)

This unit aims to provide learners with the opportunity to undertake an independent project. In the unit learners can utilise the knowledge and understanding gained in previous units and from other areas of learning and experience to independently manage and complete a practical project.

IT706 - Data analytics and Big Data (10 credits)

This unit aims to provide learners with an advanced understanding of the processes involved with developing and launching a mobile application to meet user requirements.

IT707 - Computer-based Research Methods (10 credits)

This unit aims to provide learners with an understanding of different computer-based research methods.

Specialization Modules (Artificial intelligence)

IT708 - Artificial Intelligence (10 credits)

This unit aims to provide learners with an introduction to the features of artificial intelligence including the philosophical foundations of artificial intelligence. This will include intelligence machines, artificial thinking and working like humans for example, speech recognition, problem-solving and learning.

IT709 - Computer-based Research Methods (10 credits)

This unit aims to provide learners with an understanding of different computer-based research methods.

Specialization Modules (Software Engineering)

IT710 - Agile Transformation (10 credits)

This unit aims to provide learners with the knowledge and uses of agile development within business environments. Learners will have the opportunity to explore the fundamental process of agile development including the methodologies used.

IT711 - Enterprise Resource Planning Systems (ERP Systems) (10 credits)

This unit provides learners with the knowledge and understanding of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Systems.  Learners will learn system principles, their use and the benefits they can bring to an organisation.

Entry Requirements

Entry to Level 7 Diploma in Computing

  • A bachelor's degree or an equivalent qualification.
  • Should be at least 22 years of age.

Or

  • A minimum of 5 years of managerial experience.
How will I be assessed?

Assessment is through coursework.

Course Duration

Standard duration of the Level 7 programme is 8 months. The student is required to submit 7 assignments to complete Level 7.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Recognition of Prior Learning is the recognition of non-certified learning towards a full unit or a qualification. You are able to gain credits using your previous regulated or unregulated qualifications or work experience. You can submit your CV for an evaluation of the RPL eligibility here.

Qualification Structure and Requirements

Credits and Total Qualification Time (TQT)
Level 7 is made up of 120 credits which equates to 1200 hours of TQT and includes 480 hours of GLH.

Total Qualification Time (TQT): is an estimate of the total amount of time that could reasonably be expected to be required for a learner to achieve and demonstrate the achievement of the level of attainment necessary for the award of a qualification. Examples of activities that can contribute to Total Qualification Time include: guided learning, independent and unsupervised research/learning, unsupervised compilation of a portfolio of work experience, unsupervisede-learning, unsupervised e-assessment, unsupervised coursework, watching a prerecorded podcast or webinar, unsupervised work based learning.

Guided Learning Hours (GLH): are defined as the time when a tutor is present to give specific guidance towards the learning aim being studied on a programme. This definition includes lectures, tutorials, and supervised study in, for example, open learning centres and learning workshops, live webinars, telephone tutorials or other forms of e-learning supervised by a tutor in real time. Guided learning includes any supervised assessment activity; this includes invigilated examination and observed assessment and observed work based practice.
